What began as a passion project has evolved into something far greater - a movement built on connection, respect, and the pure love of the game.
How It All Started
Portugal World Legends was born from a simple but powerful idea: to use rugby as a bridge between cultures, generations, and nations. The seed was planted in 2016, when two individuals with a deep love for the game - Tim Vieira and Lorne King - brought their vision to life.
Their original concept was to bring a team of South African Legends to Portugal to play against a World XV made up of Portuguese icons from the 2007 Rugby World Cup. What began as a passion project quickly evolved into something far greater, a movement built on connection, respect, and the pure love of the game.
We're proud that the PWL vs. SA Legends fixture has become one of the most anticipated bi-annual events in Vets' European rugby, bringing together two powerful organisations with shared values and vision. And we're not stopping there.

A Timeline of Legends
The Beginning
Tim Vieira and Lorne King bring a team of South African Legends to Portugal to play against a World XV of Portuguese icons from the 2007 Rugby World Cup. A passion project is born.
2nd Edition
The second edition builds on the inaugural success, attracting more international players and establishing PWL as a fixture in the rugby calendar.
3rd Edition
Expanding the network of legends and partners while deepening community impact and strengthening the movement's foundations.
4th Edition - Cascais
A bigger crowd, even more global rugby stars, and an unforgettable match in Cascais. Now recognised as one of the most anticipated biannual events in Vets' European rugby.
Flanders 10s
Taking PWL beyond Portugal into international VETS tournaments, growing the network and development initiatives across Europe.
